The Sham Valley Trek, also known as the Apricot Valley Trek, is a short and easy trek located in the beautiful Ladakh region of India. This trek takes you through the scenic villages of Ladakh, giving you a glimpse of the unique culture and lifestyle of the people living in this remote region. The trek can be completed in 4 days and 3 nights, making it an ideal option for those with limited time but still want to experience the beauty of Ladakh.
Leh is the starting point for the Sham Valley trek. Traveling by road to Leh takes a long time, so take a flight and arrive there quickly. Hotel arrangements will be made.
Post breakfast, drive to Likir village, it is the starting point of this trek. The route is short which includes crossing two passes. The route to the west leads to Phobe La and ahead lies Sumdo village. Steadily go upwards until you reach Chagatse La. Across the pass, Yangthang village is located, which is our destination for the day.
Today's trekking gradient is moderate due to the gentle approach and descent. Descend for a short distance to the north and cross a stream before ascending to Tsermangchan La. Stop at the pass, then descend to Hemis Shukpachan. This is one of the most beautiful villages, named after the cedar groves. There are numerous streams surrounded by barley fields and willows, giving the Rocky Mountains a greenish hue.
After breakfast, proceed to Mebtak La by following the trail that ascends between two hillocks to the west of the village until it turns south and climbs to the "Mebtak La" pass. The summit is marked by prayer flags and provides breathtaking views. From the pass, descend into the gorge to Ang, a lovely village with apricot orchards. Now, return to Leh via the Temisgam highway.
