Saptarishi Kund, also known as the Lake of Seven Sages, is a high-altitude glacial lake located in the Uttarakhand region of India. The lake is considered sacred by Hindus and is believed to have been created by the seven sages or rishis who meditated there. The Saptarishi Kund Trek is a four-day trek that takes you through beautiful valleys, dense forests, and steep slopes to reach this holy lake.
The trek starts from Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand. From Dehradun, you will be driven to Gangotri, which is the base camp for the Saptarishi Kund Trek. The drive takes around 10 hours and covers a distance of 250 km. On the way, you will pass through scenic villages, waterfalls, and dense forests.
After breakfast, the trek begins from Gangotri. The first day of the trek is a gradual ascent through a beautiful pine forest. The trail is well-defined and easy to follow. You will pass through the scenic meadows of Chirbasa and Bhojbasa, where you can see the magnificent Bhagirathi peaks. From Bhojbasa, the trail becomes steeper and the climb becomes more challenging. The campsite for the night is at Bhoj Kharak.
The third day of the trek is the most challenging and rewarding. The trail passes through a steep and rocky terrain, and the climb can be quite difficult. You will cross a high altitude pass called the Gaumukh Tapovan Pass, which offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. After crossing the pass, you will descend to the holy Saptarishi Kund. The lake is located in a picturesque valley surrounded by snow-capped peaks. After spending some time at the lake, you will return to the Bhoj Kharak campsite for the night.
The final day of the trek is a descent back to Gangotri. The trail follows the same route as the ascent and takes around 6-7 hours. From Gangotri, you will be driven back to Dehradun.
