Trek Description

Roopkund Trek is one of the most popular treks in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. The trek takes you to the mysterious Roopkund Lake, which is also known as the Skeleton Lake due to the presence of human skeletons at the bottom of the lake. The trek is a challenging 8-day, 7-night adventure that will take you to an altitude of 5029 meters above sea level.

Day wise Details and Description

Day 1: Kathgodam to Lohajung (2319 m)

The trek starts from Kathgodam, which is the nearest railway station to Lohajung. From Kathgodam, you will be driven to Lohajung, which is the base camp for the Roopkund Trek. The drive takes around 10-11 hours and covers a distance of 280 km.

Day 2: Lohajung to Didna Village (2480 m)

After breakfast, the trek begins from Lohajung. The first day of the trek is a gradual ascent through a beautiful forest of oak and rhododendron. The trail is well-defined and easy to follow. You will pass through scenic villages and lush green meadows before reaching the campsite at Didna Village.

Day 3: Didna Village to Ali Bugyal (3300 m)

The third day of the trek is a steep ascent through a beautiful forest of oak and rhododendron. The trail becomes steeper as you climb higher and the climb can be quite challenging. You will pass through beautiful meadows and streams before reaching the stunning Ali Bugyal, which is one of the most scenic campsites in the Himalayas.

Day 4: Ali Bugyal to Patar Nachauni (3650 m)

The fourth day of the trek is a gradual ascent through beautiful meadows and streams. The trail passes through scenic villages and lush green meadows before reaching the campsite at Patar Nachauni.

Day 5: Patar Nachauni to Bhagwabasa (4150 m)

The fifth day of the trek is a steep ascent through rocky terrain. The trail passes through beautiful meadows and streams before reaching the campsite at Bhagwabasa.

Day 6: Bhagwabasa to Roopkund (5029 m) and back to Bhagwabasa

The sixth day of the trek is the most challenging day of the trek. The trail is a steep climb through rocky terrain to reach the Roopkund Lake. The climb can be quite challenging due to the high altitude and unpredictable weather conditions. After spending some time at the Roopkund Lake, you will return to Bhagwabasa for the night.

Day 7: Bhagwabasa to Bedni Bugyal (3354 m)

The seventh day of the trek is a descent through beautiful meadows and streams. The trail passes through scenic villages and lush green meadows before reaching the campsite at Bedni Bugyal.

Day 8: Bedni Bugyal to Lohajung and then to Kathgodam

The final day of the trek is a descent back to Lohajung. The trail follows the same route as the ascent and takes around 6-7 hours. From Lohajung, you will be driven back to Kathgodam.
