The Gokyo RI Trek is a beautiful trek in the Everest region of Nepal. This 10-day trek offers stunning views of the Himalayan range and takes you to the Gokyo Valley, which is known for its pristine lakes and glaciers. The trek is moderate to difficult level and requires a good level of fitness.
Arrive in Kathmandu today and begin preparing for the trek. Meet the team at the airport, where you will be briefed on the journey. Check into a hotel, and then we'll see if you have the necessary trekking equipment or if something is missing. Prepare the trek's necessities and stay comfortably in a hotel.
After breakfast, transfer to Kathmandu's Tribhuvan Domestic Airport for a flight to Lukla. You can fly there in half an hour and have one of the best flying experiences because it passes through valleys, mountain ranges, and quaint villages. Arrive in Lukla, where team members will meet you and take you on a 3.5-hour trek to Phakding. Travel through some lovely villages and lush green mountains. When you arrive in Phakding, you will stay in a guesthouse.
Today's trek takes us to Namche Bazaar, which is 3440 metres above sea level. This location is surrounded by beautiful large green mountains, and it is a pleasure to trek along the Dudh Koshi to Namche. Take a break at Monjo before beginning the ascent through dense green forest. If the weather remains clear, you will be able to see Mt. Everest and Lhotse as you approach Namche.
Today you can rest and explore the surrounding area; just above this Bazaar is a Namche museum, and Mt. Everest and Lhotse are clearly visible from there. Visit Namche Bazaar or the Namche Monastery.
After breakfast, begin the ascent from Namche Bazaar to Kyangjuma, a small village with spectacular views of Ama Dablan (6856 m), Thamserku (6808 m), and Katenga (6685 m). Leave the Kyangjuma trail and gradually ascend to Mongla, a small hamlet with a few tea houses and breathtaking views of lofty snow-capped peaks. Take advantage of your overnight stay in a lodge.
Descend from Mongla towards Dudh Kosi, then follow a river to its source. As you gain altitude, the trail becomes more isolated, passing through a forest of Rhododendrons and Fir. Cross this section to reach Dole, a small town with a few tea houses and breathtaking views of Thamserku (6808 m) and Kantega (6685 m).
Begin your journey with a steep ascent from Dole to Luza (4360 m) via Lahframa (4220 m). The trail now becomes easier and leads you through small, picturesque villages in Nepal. Now, follow the Dudh Kosi to its source, where you will find a small hamlet called Machhermo, where there are a few tea houses and where you will be staying today.
After a short ascent to Phangka, the valley widens and you must descend towards the river. Begin climbing the trail that leads to the terminal moraine of the Ngozamba glacier. Climb up the moraine and come across an old iron bridge, it marks the entry to the fascinating "Gokyo Lake Valley". After a short hike from here, you will reach the valley's first lake, Longpongo. A short distance away is another, "Taboche Tso," which is linked to Dudh Pokhri, the third lake, and on whose bank Gokyo village is located. Today's destination is Gokyo, where you will stay in a lodge.
The majestic Gokyo Ri can be seen across the Dudh Pokhri. Begin the day early and make your way to the Gokyo peak. The ascent is difficult and steep, but it is rewarded with breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Gokyo Ri is one of the best scenic spots because it offers panorama of the lofty Himalayan peaks. The high peaks visible from there are - Mt Everest (8848 m), Makalu (8475 m), Lhotse (8501 m), Cho Oyu (8153 m), Gyangchung Kang (7922 m), Thamsreku (6808 m), Kantega (6685 m), Taweche (6542 m), Cholatse (6440 m), Kusum Kanguru (6367 m), Lobuche (6145 m) and other snow covered peaks. Retrace your steps back to Macchermo after spending some time there.
Retrace your steps from Macchermo to Dole, then follow the Dudh Kosi through a forest of Rhododendrons and wealthy sections of birch. The trail is mostly downhill with some ascents. Arrive in Namche Bazar and spend the night in a lodge.
Today, return from Namche Bazaar to Lukla and enjoy your final day of trekking in the Khumbu region. Because of the trials, the journey becomes difficult. The trek to Lukla is simple, but it appears to be very long.
Take a flight to Kathmandu from the airport. Do not overlook the valley and high mountain views while flying. In your spare time, travel to Kathmandu and learn about Nepali culture and traditions. There, stay in a guest house or hotel.
