Trek Description

Gaumukh Trek is a spiritual and adventurous trek in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. The trek takes you to the source of the Ganges River, which is considered to be one of the holiest places for Hindus. The trek is a 6-day, 5-night adventure that will take you to an altitude of 4463 meters above sea level.

Day wise Details and Description

Day 1: Dehradun to Gangotri (3048 m)

The trek starts from Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand. From Dehradun, you will be driven to Gangotri, which is the base camp for the Gaumukh Trek. The drive takes around 8-9 hours and covers a distance of 250 km. On the way, you will pass through scenic villages, waterfalls, and dense forests.

Day 2: Gangotri to Bhojbasa (3792 m)

After breakfast, the trek begins from Gangotri. The first day of the trek is a gradual ascent through a beautiful pine forest. The trail is well-defined and easy to follow. You will pass through scenic villages and lush green meadows before reaching the campsite at Bhojbasa.

Day 3: Bhojbasa to Gaumukh (4463 m)

The third day of the trek is a steep ascent through rocky terrain. The trail becomes steeper as you climb higher and the climb can be quite challenging. You will pass through beautiful meadows and streams before reaching the stunning Gaumukh Glacier, which is the source of the Ganges River.

Day 4: Gaumukh to Tapovan (4463 m)

The fourth day of the trek is a steep climb through rocky terrain. The trail passes through beautiful meadows and streams before reaching the campsite at Tapovan. Tapovan is a beautiful high altitude meadow surrounded by snow-capped peaks and is considered to be one of the most scenic campsites in the Himalayas.

Day 5: Tapovan to Nandanvan (4500 m)

The fifth day of the trek is a descent through rocky terrain. The trail passes through beautiful meadows and streams before reaching the campsite at Nandanvan. Nandanvan is a beautiful high altitude meadow surrounded by snow-capped peaks and is a great place to relax and soak in the stunning views.

Day 6: Nandanvan to Gangotri

The final day of the trek is a descent back to Gangotri. The trail follows the same route as the ascent and takes around 6-7 hours. From Gangotri, you will be driven back to Dehradun.
