Trek Description

The Chandranahan Lake Trek starts from the village of Janglik, which is situated in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The trail passes through dense forests of oak, deodar, and fir trees, and offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. Along the way, you will also get to witness the unique culture and lifestyle of the Kinnauris, who are known for their hospitality and warmth. The highlight of the trek is undoubtedly the Chandranahan Lake, which is situated at an altitude of 4,130 meters above sea level. The lake is surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks and is considered sacred by the locals. According to legends, the lake is the abode of the Hindu deity, Lord Shiva. The crystal clear waters of the lake reflect the beauty of the surroundings, making it a sight to behold.

Day wise Details and Description

Day 1: Shimla to Janglik

Meet the members at Shimla's Old Bus Stand, and then travel to "Janglik" Base Camp. Drive down the pure blue Pabba River and take in the shifting scenery of Himachal's picturesque towns.

Day 2: Janglik to Dayara

Begin the hike by exiting the wheat fields and bidding farewell to the remaining few Diude cottages. When you climb higher, you may see Tonglu, Diude, and other picturesque settlements. When you enter the pine and oak forest, it becomes deep and the sharp ascent becomes gradual.

Day 3: Dayara to Litham

In the morning, explore the Dayara meadows, and the path from Dayara to Lithum passes through dense woodlands, enticing green meadows, and streams. The route leads across meadows to Gunas Pass, where it enters the pine forest after fifteen minutes.

Day 4: Short hike to Chandranahan Lake

Chandranahan is a tiny glacier lake surrounded by mountains, and it is fed by snow flanks. To get to the Ridge Top, use the Shepherds Trail and go towards the waterfall's snout. This Lake can be reached in one hour, however the route becomes arduous from the snout. The views of the alpine valley are breathtaking. Its lake's location is lovely, with grassy sections in the middle and little waterfalls that flow into small streams. There are rocky rocks that mark the lake; take in the scenery before returning to Litham.

Day 5: Litham to Dayara

Retrace your steps through the undulating meadows of Dayara and reach the campsite.

Day 6: Dayara to Janglik

Follow the same route and get back to Janglik. The vehicle will be arranged for departure to Shimla.
